Step 3 - update Driver License

Important Note:  If you are changing your name it is very important that you complete step 2 (Update Social Security Card) prior to starting step 3.  You will not be able to update the name on your driver's license until your Social Security record is updated.  If you have not completed step 2, please click here to start the process.

1 - take documents to your local dmv office

Make sure to bring with you:
  • A copy of the signed court order for your name change (from Step 1 - Petition)
  • Proof of Social Security Number (from Step 2 - Social Security)
  • Proof of identification
  • Proof of address
  • Payment for $25 replacement fee
